The concept of an all-women race isn’t new. The Nike Women’s Marathon [link | Press Release ] in San Francisco attracts 25,000 runners for the half and full marathon distances lured in part by the Tiffany and Co. necklace as a finisher “medal”.
Through the dogged determination of race director, Karen Loh [she previously guest-posted on my blog], we’ll have an opportunity to experience a race with a difference this April 7th. One of the highlights is the visit and talk by running legend Katherine Switzer. Whether you’re new to running or a hardened racer, you’d probably have read or heard about this woman pioneer. Personally it’s going to be a treat for me as her story and interview had been featured in 2 of my favourite podcasts, The Story as well as Phedippidations. I’ve provided the links below so that you can download and listen. You will be inspired, I guarantee it.

While there are various distances on offer i.e. 8K Fun Run, 21K and 42K, word is that the marathon distance is seeing very encouraging take up rates. Things are moving at a fast pace and registration is already open. Guys will not be left out as they’ll have roles to play in supporting their spouses, girlfriends or partners.
